ABOUT SCUD

Born in China, had a 20 years IT career, founded a public listed company, travelled 80 countries before settling in Sydney. Realizing that he had fulfilled the dream of others but not his own, he returned to Hong Kong to start Artwalker, producing acclaimed films such as the Berlinale official selection “Amphetamine” (2009) and “Voyage” (2012).

Scud was the tribute honoree and the first Q-Hugo Award recipient in the 49th Chicago International Film Festival and received an “Artistic Achievement Award” for his “Edgy, Tender and Bold Filmmaking”.SCUD announced his intended retirement in 2022, after making his 10th and last film “Naked Nations”.

  • City Without Baseball (2008)

    処女作となったCity Without Baseball (2008)は Lawrence Lau (劉國昌)と共同監督を勤めた。物語は誰も知らない香港の野球チームの話しで、香港には野球の文化すらなかった。映画の登場人物は本物の選手たちで、全て実話に基づいてる。 スポーツをテーマにしてる作品にしては劇中のヌードシーンが多く、香港では物議を醸し出した。宣伝ようの看板でさえ、クレームにより取り外されてしまった。しかし映画は評論家からは絶賛され、表彰を受けた。
    ２作目以降はSCUD監督だけで作品を手がけた。

  • Permanent Residence (2009)

    Permanent Residence (2009) はイスラエル、日本、オーストラリア、タイ、中国本土、と香港で撮影された。“Trilogy of Finitude”（有限性３部作）の第１弾になったこの作品は生きる事の限度を探すテーマだ。あるゲイ男性が来生について考えながらあるストレートな男性と恋に落ちる。この作品は台湾では瞬時にヒットになった。キャストに抜擢されたOsman Hungは有名アイドル・グループ のボーカルであり、この作品への参加は衝撃的だった。そして俳優 Sean Liはこの作品で中国で新人賞を受賞した。

  • Amphetamine (2010)

    Amphetamine (2010) は３部作の第２弾で、情熱の限度を試す作品。Berlin International Film Festivalで選定され、 Teddy Award at the Berlinaleにノミネートされた.。更に、第３４回Hong Kong International Film Festival, では俳優のByron Pang最優秀主演賞にノミネートされた。またもや作品は批判を浴びた。そして香港のTelevision and Entertainment Licensing Authority から作品の５箇所のカットを命じられた。SCUD監督は猛烈に協議し、代表に直接手紙を出し、最終的にはこの５カットの処理としてはスクリーンは真っ黒で、シーンの音楽と台詞だけが流れた。

  • Love Actually…Sucks! (2011)

    Love Actually…Sucks! (2011) は４作目で、インスピレーションとしては実話の中から恋愛が狂って悪くなったシチュエーションを描いている。ハリウッド映画の「ラブ・アクチュアリー」へのオマージュになった作品だ。６つのラブストーリーで構成されているが、その愛の内容は情熱的な愛情のダークな部分で、性と暴力と死が描かれている。露骨なセックスシーンガ多いため、香港と台湾での上映には映画の完成後に１年もかかり、１１シーンに修正が加えられる始末だった。しかし、欧米ではフィラデルフィアを皮切りにアメリカ各地とヨーロッパで、オリジナルノーカット版が上映された。

  • ボヤージュ (2013)

    ボヤージュ (2013)を“Trilogy of Finitude”の最後の作品として手がけた。テーマは鬱、自殺、早すぎる死、来世等だ。自分の経験と知人の話しを元に書かれた作品だ。Voyageはモンゴル内陸部、マレーシア、オーストラリ、ドイツ、オランダ、と香港で撮影された。第４９回 Chicago International Film Festivalではオープニング作品として選ばれ、第１回目の Q-Hugo賞を受賞した。LGBT社会への貢献とエッジのきいた大胆な映画作りが高く評価された。

  • ユートピア (2015)

    ユートピアは６作目になる。現代社会における古典的価値観をテーマにした作品だ。「推そらくこの作品が“Trilogy of Finitude”の続編になるだろう」とSCUD監督は感じている。現状では最終の編集作業に入っている。
